As part of the conversion from oil to natural gas at 1801 Hollis St in Halifax NS, MacLeod & Grant Ltd supplied a package of equipment to replace aging Unilux oil-fired water tube boilers and a problematic oil-fired hot water tank.
The boilers chosen for replacement were three Lochinvar PowerFin PBN1701-M9 1.7MBH non-condensing copper boilers with 5:1 modulating burners and an A.O. Smith Cyclone Xi BTH-250 condensing gas water heater. The new boilers are cascaded together for communication with the Lochinvar SMART System technology and boiler set point is controlled by an external building management system. The primary boiler loop pumping and air separation is handled by S.A. Armstrong 1050 custom circulators and a 6″ air separator. The boilers are each vented with HeatFab (a division of Selkirk) Saf-T-Vent EZ Seal AL29-4C stainless steel venting.
